Mut aka Mout

Looks: She was identified by wearing a giant vulture on her headdress. It was an ideogram of her name. She wore a double crown, the pschent. A crown that only wives of a god king could wear. Her face was not as feminine as other female gods. Her hair was also not usually shown; instead she wore a helm type headdress that was the shape of her hair. She was shown on many statues wearing very decorative hats, it was sign of respect and class. Most of the time her headdresses would include a vulture of some sort. She had a darker toned skin than most female gods. She wore lots of big jewelry, very elegant, with lots of bright jewels. She was given a very welcoming motherly pose. She held an ankh in one hand, and a crook in the other. Those are the only two items she was usually seen with, some rare statues exist however with her holding other royal artifacts. The head dress she wore symbolizes her rule of upper and lower Egypt. She took other forms as well, like a cat, cobra, white vulture, and cow.

Significance: Mut was the Mother god. She was well known at the side of Amon-Ra. She grew in power as he did, after he became the mighty god of all the heavens, she also became a solar deity. She was often associated with Bastet, the cat headed god. They both had the common trait of being motherly. She was one of the key players of the triad, later called the pantheon of Thebes. Both upper and lower Egypt already had gods, Wadjet and Nekhbet, patron deities. Mut quickly became the more prominent god, and so she was thought to have taken in Wadjet, and Nekhbet. There was said to be no greater mother than Mut. She was very kind and gentle to everyone she was associated with. She was thought to be the goddess of the waters that everything appeared from. However she is more formally known as the Motherly God. She had many titles, the most known was Eye of Ra, and some other like, World-Mother, Queen of the goddesses, and simply The Lady.

Family: Mut was Amon-Ra’s wife. They had could not bear children, so adoption was the only way. Mut first adopted Mont, and then Khons. She was not fertile due to being created from nothing. She was parentless, and this was said to be the reason her, herself could not be impregnated. She was also thought to have adopted Menthu. Some people think that Mut and Amun conceived a son named Khonsu, however this was dismissed when we found out she was infertile.
